The “Mother” of all Cocktails
Sunday is Mother’s Day, so I decided that the today’s cocktail had to be my mom’s favorite! The classic Lemon Drop Martini is my mother’s go-to cocktail; she loves them. I came up with my take on this classic years ago and I always try to make her one when she visits.
The Lemon Drop is a very simple martini. Many recipes are bad because they’re too sugary or too strong. My recipe has just the right amount of sour, sweetness and alcohol.
It takes three forms of lemon to get that great citrus punch and flavor: fresh lemon juice (never bottled), homemade (or store-bought) Limoncello and finally, a good citron vodka.
If your mom loves Lemon Drop martinis as much as my mom, make sure you make her one this Mother’s Day.
- 1 ounce fresh lemon juice
- 1 ounce simple syrup
- 2 ounces citron vodka
- 1 ounce Limoncello
- ice
- shaker
- lemon wedges
- sugar
- martini glass
- Rim a martini glass with the wedge of lemon, then press it into a shallow dish of sugar, to make a sugared rim.
- In a martini shaker filled with ice, add lemon juice, simple syrup, citron vodka, and Limoncello. Shake!
- Pour into prepared martini glass and garnish with a wedge of lemon.
