Blackberry Bourbon Cocktail
Last week I made a delicious Coeur a la Creme for dessert with a fresh blackberry sauce. After my friends devoured the yummy cream heart I had plenty of blackberry sauce remaining. I kept the sauce in the fridge not knowing exactly what I would use it for but it was so delicious that it couldn’t go to waste. I first drizzled it over my morning yogurt which was amazing and then I thought why not use it in a cocktail.
A fresh blackberry sauce is perfect for use in cocktails since you don’t need any simple syrup since the sauce is already sweetened. I quickly thought I want this with bourbon since the seasons are changing it’s time to ease back into the dark spirits and heavier classic cocktails. I simply mixed bourbon and the blackberry sauce 2:1 and then topped with ice and sparkling water, depending on the size of glass will determine the amount of water you add which will determine how strong your cocktail is.
Go out and get some fresh blackberries while you can and get this cocktail on your happy hour menu this week!
- 1 cup fresh blackberries (frozen will work too)
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 cup blackberry jam
- 2 ounces bourbon
- 1 ounce blackberry sauce
- ice
- sparkling water
- Combine the fresh blackberries and sugar in a saucepan, bring just to a boil. Lower heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Pour the blackberry mixture and the jam into a food processor or blender and pulse until fully combined and smooth. Chill.
- Combine the bourbon and blackberry sauce in a glass, add ice and stir. Top off with sparkling water and stir again. Enjoy!
