Mmmm. Manhattan.
The Manhattan is truly a classic cocktail. As we head into autumn, it’s the perfect time to break out the whiskey/rye/bourbon for lots of delicious drinks. All three of these work wonderfully in a Manhattan.
The Manhattan is an essential drink everyone should have in their bar arsenal and it’s an easy drink to make. There are many variations, but this is my favorite and a perfect way to transition into fall cocktail season as summer draws to a close and I’ve had my last gin and tonic.

Serves 1
Ingredients
- 2 ounces bourbon
- 1 ounce sweet vermouth
- 2-3 dashes aromatic bitters, I love orange bitters here.
- Maraschino cherries for garnish (tip: try to find a good local artisan product, my recipe coming later)
Instructions
- Shake the first three ingredients together with ice in a shaker. Strain into a chilled martini glass and plop in a cherry and you have a delicious cocktail. That’s all there is to it!
