My Chinese Feast Party Tips
I have shared all of my great recipes for a Chinese Feast Garden Party over the past couple of weeks. Food and cocktails are only part of what it takes to really throw a great party.
I always like to decorate and this really showcases the theme of any party. I find that just having simple decorations will help shine a spotlight on the theme and give the party a fun, light hearted feel that makes guests feel relaxed. Here are a few of my tips for decorating for a Chinese Feast Garden Party.
Start with the tablecloth. My new favorite trick for tablecloths is to buy outdoor “sunbrella” fabric by the yard to fit the table. If you go to places like JoAnn fabrics, they typically have the fabric on sale for 40% off and this way, you will have a wide variety of options for festive tablecloths. My table takes 3 yards and I typically pay about $30, whereas a nice tablecloth can range from $50- $100.
Lanterns. Years ago, I invested in fun Chinese lanterns at the party supply store. They are great because they really give you the bright pops of color and look authentic. I also love that hey collapse flat for easy storage.
Take out containers. Go to a restaurant supply store like Cash & Carry and buy Chinese take out containers. Often, I will divide up salads and serve them directly out of these boxes. This year I used round soup take out containers for serving my Hot & Sour Soup. Another thing to pick up at the restaurant supply is a package of chop sticks. They are very affordable and it means less dishes to clean.
Napkins. I always color coordinate the cocktail napkins with the theme, so for this event they were red and a yellow gold. This is one of my main tricks.
I hope these simple tips will help when you throw a Chinese themed party and have as much fun as my guests and I did this year at Elfie’s birthday.
